The Dearborn Library has once again been chosen to receive a grant for The Big Read, managed by Arts Midwest. This is a One Book One Community program of the National Endowment for the Arts focused on revitalizing the role of literature in American culture and working to inspire citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. The book chosen for this year is The Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe. Activities based on this theme are taking place all across Dearborn in February and March asking the question, Do you know Poe?
Two exciting events are taking place in East Downtown Dearborn in the month of February.
On Thursday February 11th from 7-8pm there will be a ‘Great Stories and Poems’ book discussion in the Arab American National Museum Russell J. Ebeid Library & Resource Center located at 13624 Michigan Avenue. Readers of all ages are welcome to attend and discuss the book.
On Saturday February 13th, Green Brain Comics will be hosting an event to meet the illustrators of ‘Portraits of Poe’. Special guest editors and illustrators include Bill Pulkovski, Tony Miello and Bruce Gerlach. Light refreshments will be served and attendees can receive a free signed copy of the book, while supplies last. Registration is required for this event. Visit dearbornlibrary.org or call (313) 943-2330 to reserve your spot. The event starts at 2pm in the lower level of Green Brain Comics, 13936 Michigan Avenue.
